In a recent soiree behind closed doors at E3, Eiji Aonuma and Shigeru Miyamoto had a sit down with journalists to talk about The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass and Super Mario Galaxy. While the Phantom Hourglass segment turned out to be little more than a repeat of Nintendo's earlier on-stage demo at their conference, Miyamoto let a few cats out the bag on Super Mario Galaxy.

First up, the game will have six large areas with forty different galaxies between them. There will be a total of 120 stars that need to be collected, and you will need to revisit areas multiple times to nab more than one star.

A surprise to everyone this E3 was the revelation that anyone watching you play Galaxy will now have the ability to jump right in. Yup - Mario's gone two player. It's been dubbed the "Assist Mode", as the second player will get their own pointer on screen. They'll be able to poke enemies and hold various dangerous items back - such as falling boulders. Or if they're feeling evil, they can pick up Mario and slow him down.

While you take all that into consideration, you can check out three new trailers after the jump.
